Resumen

FUENMAYOR, B. A. et al. Infection by Helycobacter pylori in patients with benign gastrointestinal patology.. Rev. Soc. Ven. Microbiol. [online]. 2002, vol.22, n.1, pp.27-31. ISSN 1315-2556.

The purpose of this work was to establish an association between infection by Helycobacter pylori and the presence of benign digestive pathologies in symptomatic individuals of Maracaibo city. Eighty patients were studied using rapid urease test, bacteriological culture, serology (IgG and IgA) and PCR (last one only to 46/80). The prevalence for the group of patients reached 53.8%, with respect to a seroprevalence of 71.3%. Twenty-three of the individuals (28.75%) showed negative results to the various diagnostic tests. Infection was detected in all cases of duodenal ulceration (6/6), 64% of the NUD cases (16/25), 50% of the gastric ulcer cases (6/12) and in 40.5% of the studied gastritis (15/37). Infection by H. pylori, in individuals being studied, is strongly related to the development of benign digestive pathologies, specially to the duodenal ulcer-peptic disease. Recommendation is to further investigate to determine the real etiological role of this microorganism within the NUD.
