PEREZ, C et al. Use of the Stuart urea broth for the urease test, like proof in the identification of yeasts.. Rev. Soc. Ven. Microbiol. [online]. 2002, vol.22, n.2, pp.136-140. ISSN 1315-2556.
Abstract The urease test is one of the preliminary steps of the procedures recommended in the identification of yeasts from, clinical specimens. The culture media used for this purpose is the Christensen urea agar, which is laborious and expensive. The aim of our study was to compare the Christensen urea agar, which is a generally aid in the bacteriologic laboratory with the Stuart urease broth, a media less expensive and easy to prepare. The distribution of species of the 104 yeast evaluated included the following: Candida, Cryptococcus, Rhodotorula, Trichosporon and Saccharomyces. No difference were observed between the two media.
