Abstract Tinea capitis is one of the fungal infections seen most commonly in childhood. Clinically it is presented in several clinical varieties, from non inflammatory forms to inflammatory forms. The inflammatory forms range from pustular folliculitis to Celso's kerion. We are presenting a case of a 10-year-old schoolboy, who was evaluated at the Department of Dermatology of the Institute of Biomedicine of the Hospital Vargas de Caracas, presenting ulcerous lesions on the scalp with oozing purulent material. We established the diagnosis of Celso's kerion based on clinical manifestations and identification of Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. mentagrophytes in cultures for fungi. The patient received treatment with griseofulvin (20 mg/kg) for ten weeks, waith resolution ad integrum. We report this case because large ulcers are not frequently observed on scalp, and generally when they occur, they are caused by Microsporum canis and the Microsporum gyseum
