URRESTARAZU, MI; SERRANO, N; PINERO, R  e  CAVAZZA, ME. Antimicrobial susceptibility of helicobacter pylori. Rev. Soc. Ven. Microbiol. [online]. 2003, vol.23, n.1, pp.14-15. ISSN 1315-2556.

The aim of this study was to determine the profile of susceptibility of Helicobacter pylori to the antimicrobial agents used for the treatment of the infection. Between 1998 and 1999 CMI for amoxicillin, clarithromycin, tetracycline and metronidazole to 45 Helicobacter pylori isolated from patients of the Service of Gastroenterology of the Hospital Vargas of Caracas, were investigated. The results were: 30 strains (67%) resistant to metronidazole, 3 (7%) resistant to clarithromycin, 3 (7%) resistant to tetracycline, 4 (9%) were multiresistant, the rest of the isolates were sensible to all proven antibiotics. No H. pylori strains showed resistance to amoxicillin. This pattern of antibiotic resistance seemed to the reported by other developing countries and confirms the necessity to used tests of susceptibility for the election of a suitable antibiotic combination that allows the eradication and control of the infection by Helicobacter pylori in our country.
