CHERUBINI, B; SANCHEZ-MIRT, A  e  GARCIA, L. Vaginal candidosis in sexually active women inhabitants of a country zone of Falcón state, Venezuela. Rev. Soc. Ven. Microbiol. [online]. 2003, vol.23, n.1, pp.47-50. ISSN 1315-2556.

The incidence of vaginal candidosis in the fertile female population (15 to 50 years), sexually active, that attended by their free will from march to June 2002, to the consultation of familiar and prenatal plan in the health facility type II of Pueblo Nuevo de la Sierra, parish Colina, municipium Petit, Falcón State, Venezuela, was determined. A sample of vaginal secretion was taken, and a mycological study was done. The suggesting colonies of the genre Candida were purified and were identified by the techniques of: Production of chlamydospores, filament, production of urease and sugar fermentation. Of the total of 158 women referred as fertile female population, 31 (19,62%) attended the consultation with suggestive symptomatology of vaginal candidosis, 10 patients (32,25%) having strains of candida sp. Of which: 4 (40%) were Candida albicans, 3 (30%) Candida tropicalis, 2 (20%) Candida krusei, 1 (10%) Candida parapsilosis here isolated. The correct identification of the species of the genre Candida causing vaginal candidosis is of epidemiological and clinical importance due to the great resistance to the antifungical agents and for the marked variability showed by the various species among different geographical regions in the world.
