Resumen

SOSA BRICENO, M et al. Isolation and identification of dermatophytes, agents of dermatomycosis in Trujillo state, Venezuela.. Rev. Soc. Ven. Microbiol. [online]. 2004, vol.24, n.1-2, pp.68-70. ISSN 1315-2556.

The dermatophytoses constitutes one of the main causes of dermatological consulting. In our laboratory, 200 patients coming from the Dermatology Consulting in the Investigation Centre "José Witremundo Torrealba", Los Andes University, Trujillo state, Venezuela, were received presenting different affections in the skin. The major number of them were women (99=49,5%) and men (81=40,5%), while the children represented the smallest percentage (20=10%). 60 strains of dermatophytes were isolated and classified in 3 different species: Trichophyton rubrum (33), Trichophyton mentagrophytes (18) and Microsporum canis (09). Our results agree with the findings of other investigators in different geographical areas, and it is assumed that these three species represent the main causal agents of dermatophytoses.

Palabras clave : Dermatophytes; dermatophytoses; antifungal agents; antibiotics.
