Resumen

ROJAS GARCIA, OC; VIVAS ALCALA, JJ  y  GUERRERO ONOFRETTI, AJ. Cladophialophora carrionii inoculum standardization by the spectrophotometric method for the in vitro susceptibility studies of filamentous fungi.. Rev. Soc. Ven. Microbiol. [online]. 2004, vol.24, n.1-2, pp.89-94. ISSN 1315-2556.

The recent growth of infections caused by dematiaceous fungi and the indiscriminate use of antifungal drugs, motivated the preparation and standardization of an inoculum that fulfills the NCCLS norms, following M-38P protocol, and guarantees a reproducible, effective, and simple method for the in vitro susceptibility tests. 9 strains of Cladophialophora carrionii were isolated of chromoblastomycoses patients, coming from the Urdaneta municipality, endemic area of Lara state, Venezuela. It worked with conidia filtrate, starting from conidiogenesis phase mycelia, being obtained a conidial suspension, standardized to 5,5 x 105-1,2 x 106 UFC/ml, quantified in Neubauer chamber. The inoculum was verified, carrying out cultures in Sabouraud dextrose agar in petri dishes. With this method, a narrow margin of variability was observed in the studied isolates. It is of easy execution, showing to be useful for the in vitro susceptibility tests to antifungal drugs in dematiaceous fungi.
