The arachnoidism constitutes the group of clinical manifestations taken place by the bite of spiders. In Bolívar state prevalence of accidents caused by spiders bites is unknown. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence and clinical-epidemic aspects of the arachnoidism in the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario "Ruiz y Páez", main Hospital in Bolivar state, Venezuela. It was a descriptive and retrospective study. Clinical records of the cases of arachnoidism evaluated in the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario "Ruiz y Páez", during January 1996 to Julio 2003, were revised. Clinical and epidemiological data were registered. Also, it was carried out a revision of the literature. In the period of study, 3 cases of arachnoidism were diagnosed. In Ciudad Bolivar, arachnoidism is unusual, it is usually light and not complicated; however, the personnel of health should be attentive before eventual serious poisonings in the region.
