Abstract This review refers to the main pathogen yeasts in humans, affect mainly immunocompromised patients. It stands out the importance of the isolation and identification process to the genus and species level, that allows to enrich, in a more precise way, the data about the casuistry and epidemiology of mycoses caused by yeasts, mainly in the group of greatest impact, referred as “emergent yeasts”. They are also pointed out diverse technical and cultivation media described at the literature, to carry out the identification assays, which could be applicable to several routine and specialization laboratories.
