Abstract
SALAZAR DE VEGAS, Elsa Z et al. Species of Acinetobacter identified in the University Hospital Antonio Patricio de Alcalá, Cumaná, Venezuela. Rev. Soc. Ven. Microbiol. [online]. 2017, vol.37, n.1, pp.4-9. ISSN 1315-2556.
In order to determine the Acinetobacter genospecies, we analyzed 62 preserved isolates, obtained from specimens from patients treated at the Servicio Autónomo Hospital Antonio Patricio de Alcalá (SAHUAPA) at the Sucre state, during the period June-December 2008. The isolates were recovered and submitted to identification by the conventional biochemical tests, the commercial VITEK® 1 system and the restriction analysis method of 16S amplified rDNA (ARDRA). According to conventional tests, 49 isolates were identified as A. calcoaceticus-A. baumannii complex and 13 as Acinetobacter sp., Whereas by means of VITEK® 1, 54 isolates were located in the A. calcoaceticus - A. baumannii complex and 8 were identified at the genus level only. By ARDRA, 80.7% (50) isolates were identified as A. baumannii; 3.2% corresponded to A. genospecies 16 (2); 1.6% were identified as A. pittii (1) and A. nosocomialis (1), respectively, and 12.9% (8) isolates could not be identified, due to band patterns produced were not compatible with those described so far for this bacteria. It was concluded that, in addition to A. baumannii, other genoespecies of Acinetobacter, such as A. pitti, A. nosocomialis and A. genospecies16 are being isolated from patients attended in SAHUAPA.
