In order to evaluate the presence of intestinal parasites in the health personnel working in the Critical Medicine area of the Antonio Patricio de Alcalá University Hospital at Cumaná, Sucre State, 91 fecal specimens obtained voluntarily and with consent were analyzed. The coproparasitological examination included wet mounts, Ritchies and Katos techniques and Zielh Neelsens staining. Also, the Graham test was performed. All subjects were parasitized (prevalence 100%). The most frequent parasites were chromist/protozoan, being Blastocystis spp. the most prevalent with 97.8%. Nursing staff was the one with the highest prevalence and diversity of parasitic species. However, no association was demonstrated between the occupation and the parasites found, nor with the gender of the individuals evaluated. The majority reported drinking water available (98.9%), household trash collection (100%) and adequate home hygiene conditions (98.1%), as well as the practice of good hygiene-sanitary habits (98.1% - 100 %). These facts are contradictory with the results found, although they agreed that the hygiene and sanitary conditions of the environment at the working place are not adequate (96.7% - 100%), which could suggest that the main source of contamination could be found there.
