Resumen
VERGARA ESTEVEZ, Jorge. The Neoliberal Utopia and its Critics . Utopìa y Praxis Latinoamericana [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.31, pp.37-62. ISSN 1315-5216.
The objective of this article is two-fold. On the one hand it is a tentative reconstruction of the theoretical structure of neoliberalism, pointing out that this theory has little explanatory capacity, and it is basically a political Project of a utopian carácter, that is to say, unrealizable, even if there were no societal resistance to its realization. On the other hand it is a synthetic exposition of the criticisms of the theories presented by Tony Andreani, Pierre Bourdieu, Viviane Forrester, Franz Hinkelammert, Norbert Lechner, and by the autor of this article. They radically question their conception of man, of his economic theory. of society, and of politics, and have not been responded to by neo-liberal theorists. It is demonstrated that the present standing of this theory is mostly due to the discourse of elite economies and policies throughout the world, and the actions of publicity and the media. The article ends by offering an interpretation of neoliberalism as a political project of the sovereignty of the market elite.
