SIDEKUM, Antonio. The Litany of Alterity in Emmanuel Levitas . Utopìa y Praxis Latinoamericana [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.31, pp.115-123. ISSN 1315-5216.
This essay presents some philosophical considerations on the concepto of ethical interpelation and justice in the philosophy of Emmanuel Levitas. It deals with his thought in its assymetric relation with the other in absolute and infinite alterity. Subjectivity is affirmed by the ethical proximity of the other. Alterity possesses existencial ethical weight. Justice in Levinas deals with the absolute alterity of the other. It utilizes the biblical categories of widow, orphan, poor and foreigner in order to explain the asymetric relationship between ethics and justice. We cannot exercise power over the other, but it is necessary to exercise justice as a liturgy.
