BETTO, Frei. Open Letter to Ernesto -Ché- Guevara. Utopìa y Praxis Latinoamericana [online]. 2007, vol.12, n.38, pp.127-130. ISSN 1315-5216.

Forty years after the cold-blooded assassination -ordered by the CIA- of Ernesto (Che) Guevara, (imprisioned and still alive in Bolivia), a symbolic letter to him is written by a dominique priest -Frei Betto- a Brazilian, which resultsin a sort of `act-of-sorrow´ for the sins of false revolutionaries that have brought setbacks in the struggle (condemned at the time by Che, without receiving from others proper attention); but at the same time -those setbacks notwithstanding- an `act-of-confession´ about a sustained revolutionary faith, inspired on the ethics and the aesthetics of Ché´s own existence. And of confidence in the love-for-the-fellow-man and for collective issues, expressed by the Argentinian-Cuban-Bolivian (and already universal ethical icon of the best of new generations): “(...) a true revolutionary is guided by feelings of love. It is impossible to think of a true revolutionary without this quality”.

Palabras clave : Ernesto -Che- Guevara; Frei Betto; liberation movements; socialism.
