A sensation exists that we live in a time of crisis, of the opening of a new consciousness, of multiple fluctuations between the past and present and between two social paradigms, in the face of a notion of simultaneousness that has inaugurated the debate between what is modern and postmodern. In this context, it is unsettling to evaluate the validity of Mariátegui, a foundational thinker about the modern image of Perú, because his understanding of the exceptional character of Peruvian reality led him to a new Marxism for American lands, based on a body of heterodox theory-praxis that made him glimpse new political spaces and multiple social subjects.
