Abstract

GARCIA LEAL, Laura. Legal Pluralism and Indigenous Law. Frónesis [online]. 2006, vol.13, n.1, pp.70-80. ISSN 1315-6268.

The recognition that indigenous movements have received has produced consequences in the progressive consolidation of forms of judicial pluralism that sanctions what has been a situational reality: the coexistence of uses and customs in the self-development of numerous native indigenous communities. In general, in Latin America, movements in favour of indigenous justice are utilized due to the desire of each people to exercise greater control over internal disputes and due to what they perceive as the incompetence of the State in conflict resolution.

Keywords : Legal pluralism; multi-cultural justice; indigenous rights.
