The use of technological information included in patents is part of the techniques of innovation management and, above all, it is a Basic aspect of market intelligence. It needs to be strategically exploited in order to convert knowledge into a real asset for the productive process. The search for this information is thus essential in order to produce new knowledge, whether in academic centers or in industry, for industrial planning and for technological management and commercialization. The author discusses the role of technological information in the "Knowledge society" and discusses the relative importance attributed to it in different countries. Finally, the article examines the implications of the Venezuelan System of Intellectual Property for the defense of intellectual property.
