Resumen

TELLO CASTRILLON, Carlos. A Preliminary Definition of Market and Non-Market Mechanisms. Revista Venezolana de Economía y Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2006, vol.12, n.1, pp.73-88. ISSN 20030507.

Neo institucionalist economics appears as a modern vision of both economics and organizations. It emphasizes the deficiencies of traditional microeconomic analysis and tentatively offers explanations derived from organization theory and non-market mechanisms. However, there is no precise definition of what differentiates market and non-market mechanisms; or at least, current definitions are tacit and vague. This article is concerned to overcome this lack of clarity by comparing the definitions offered by well-known authors who have broached the problem with those of traditional microeconomics and with what case studies have understood as “market mechanisms”.

Palabras clave : Microeconomic Theory; Neoinstitutionalism; Market Mechanisms; Non-Market Mechanisms.
