KOROL, Claudia. The Place of Nature and the Environment in an Emancipation Project. Revista Venezolana de Economía y Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2006, vol.12, n.2, pp.165-169. ISSN 20030507.
This article is based on the experience of a group of popular educators that form part of the Pañuelos de Rebeldía. This group has participated in different popular scenarios in Argentina: in the Popular University Madres de la Plaza de Mayo, the unemployed workers movement, Mapuche communities, slum assemblies, the womens movement, the movement for sexual diversity, the prisons and others. After the uprising which led to the overthrow of Fernando de la Rúa in December 2001, the group decided to concentrate on the struggle in defense of the environment, water, land, energy, against mining practices that contaminate, etc. The priority given to this type of struggle is due to the opportunity of combining everyday problems with a vision of collective action embracing a wide variety of social actors. In addition, as these problems affect so many, there are new opportunities for significant international contacts and, above all, for playing a key role in the struggle against the recolonization characteristic of the current capitalist offensive. The author argues that popular education can contribute to the task of transforming resistance into movements favoring changes.
