This article is concerned to explore one of the themes that constantly appears in foreign travelers’ accounts of their visits to Venezuela: the sensuality of the local population. The different accounts almost unanimously highlight the natural way in which the mutual attraction of the sexes is expressed. At the same time, there are repeated testimonies of the physical beauty of the local population and suggestive descriptions of physical attributes, movements and gestures, the way of dressing and the ornaments used, together with references to perfumes and colors
