Resumen

NAVARRETE SANCHEZ, Rodrigo José¹. Colina’s Estilo: Recent Homosocial Representations in Venezuela. Revista Venezolana de Economía y Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2006, vol.12, n.3, pp.195-209. ISSN 20030507.

Abstract The 1980s witnessed a new topography of sexual identities in the entire Western world. The visibility of a homosexual culture was evident in the mass media. Visual and symbolic images derived from the dissident homosexual culture were directed, above all, to the youth. They were managed by a new elite of experts that projected and promoted new ‘lifestyles’, new esthetic models, especially in the film and music industries. This general tendency was naturally present in Venezuela, although it also assumed a particular local color. This article examines what the author considers two emblematic cases that serve to highlight the Venezuelan experience: the rise and fall of the author-singer Colina; and the fleeting success of the review Estilo

Palabras clave : Homosociality; Sexual Identities,; Mass Culture; Venezuela.
