RODRIGUEZ, Lenny y VESSURI, Hebe M.C. The Industry of Scientific Publishing: Recent Transformations of Intellectual Property Rights in the Field of Electronic Scientific Journals. Revista Venezolana de Economía y Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2007, vol.13, n.1, pp.91-115. ISSN 20030507.
Recently there has been a growing awareness of the role of intellectual property rights as a growth factor. This article aims to examine the changes in the notion of intellectual property rights as scientific and other forms of communication have evolved. The main objective is to offer a panoramic view of the current tensions and contradictions between the actors involved in the problem of intellectual property and in the handling of related information. On the one hand, there is the scientific community, that has seen its rights affected; on the other, the editors or publishers, who see their profit margins threatened, as they begin to lose their control and exclusivity in the publication and dissemination of information. Finally, the readers are beginning to fulfill a different role, where an active participation begins to influence the process.
