SANCHEZ, Nelsaida; CANINO, María Victoria y VESSURI, Hebe. Female Work in the Plastics Industry of the Caracas Metropolitan Area. Revista Venezolana de Economía y Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2007, vol.13, n.1, pp.169-193. ISSN 20030507.
Although historically women in "traditionally male professions" have been faced with serious obstacles in the labor market, over time the barriers have become weaker and there is a growing female participation in a wide variety of jobs previously dominated by men. However, this does not mean that they participate in the same conditions as their male counterparts. In this article, the authors examine the situation of female engineers, science graduates and technicians, working in the plants of the plastics industry of the Caracas Metropolitan Area. They use in-depth interviews, life histories and information about the number of women and personnel in general who work at the firms, as well as those who carry out strictly technical work within the plant, and their hierarchical positions.
