Resumen

LOPEZ, Magdalena. Culture and Intellectuals in Cuba: From Utopia to Revolutionary Disillusionment. Revista Venezolana de Economía y Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2007, vol.13, n.2, pp.125-143. ISSN 20030507.

This article attempts to approach he complicated question of cultural policies and actors in Cuba since 1959 and their importance for the construction and reproduction of the imaginary of the Cuban Revolution. The initial utopia was to fuse the political and cultural vanguards in a common emancipating project. This gave way, during the so-called ‘gray period’ of the early seventies, to the institutionalization of a homogeneous, overall imaginary that ended up belying the official discourse. More recent experiences suggest that it is not sufficient to apply identitary and cultural policies of inclusion; these must also be the product of horizontal processes of negotiation between multiple actors

Palabras clave : Identity; Culture; Intellectuals; Cultural Policy; Cuba.
