The article presents a descriptive investigation of the political-institutional dynamics of the Alianza Program for the Country (Programa Alianza para el Campo) in Mexico, through a case study in the State of the same name. The objective is to discuss the institutional arrangements for Mexican rural development and the sociopolitical implications in the new Rural Society-State relationship. Antecedents of the program are presented as well as its structure and operation. Political actors and processes related to the program and its operation in the State of Mexico are identified. Methodology consisted of analyzing official information, qualitative interviews with public officials and journalistic notes.
