In this research study the Concordat of 1862 that failed tried to change the Law of Patronage by the State which governs all activities of the Catholic Church in Venezuela. The ideas supported by religious institutions and the arguments of the commission appointed by the Congress of the Federation, and ideological sources of conflict that prevented reaching to concrete the autonomy between the two powers are the aspects developed in this paper.
