BORREGALES, Yuruari. Student repression in contemporary Venezuela case: Events of hoyo de la puerta, september 19th, 1984. Tiempo y Espacio [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.61, pp.105-128. ISSN 1315-9496.
During Venezuelas 20th century, the student movement had been felt in national historical events and the decade of 1980 was no exception. In that decade, groups of university students called the nitwit generation, began a series of actions rejecting the economic diffi culties that affected the country, especially after Black Friday (18/02/83). The events of the 19th of September of 1984, when there was an intent of protest by university students on the campus of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) in the city of Maracay, ending with a remnant of wounded, constitute a vivid example of repression by security agencies of the State. Th e abundant contribution of periodical sources becomes very useful in order to relate the deed and observe that even when the military forces committed an unjustified and excessive action, they did not function as the unique and absolute originator of the clash.
