Resumen

GORROCHOTEGUI M, Alfredo. Andres Bello: A Life of Service and Silent Heroism. Model for Educators. Tiempo y Espacio [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.62, pp.37-61. ISSN 1315-9496.

The present essay offers insight into the life of Andres Bello by taking a close look into his life as an educator throughout the three most prominent stages of his life: when he lived in Caracas, London and Santiago de Chile. The essay covers his family and academic instruction in Caracas, along with his years in London where he studied various topics of interest and became acquainted with intellectually and politically prestigious personalities, and finally, his fruitful life in Santiago, where he built the institutional basis for a new politically-independent society that was culturally different from the previous one under the Spanish regimen. All throughout these three stages, his spirit of service and silent heroism are remarkably clear. Bello had a profound interior life, which he nourished through constant study and allowed him to develop the best possible solutions to the problems of his time.

Palabras clave : Bello; biography; education; educators.
