Resumen
VELLEMAN, Barry L. The Criteria of a Work Difficult to Surpass: Ángel Rosenblat and El Pensamiento Gramatical de Bello. Tiempo y Espacio [online]. 2014, vol.24, n.62, pp.63-76. ISSN 1315-9496.
In this essay we propose to summarize some important aspects of the grammatical thought of Andrés Bello (1781-1865), utilizing the criteria analyzed by the Polish-Argentinian-Venezuelan linguist Ángel Rosenblat (1902-1984). In two papers from the 1960s (Rosenblat 1965 [1961], 1966), Rosenblat explores Bellos contribution to grammatical studies on the basis of five principles (limitations on semantics, logic, and Latinization; functional description; synchrony). Rosenblats essays document, not only Bellos grammatical system and theory, but also the brilliance of an outstanding historian of linguistic ideas.
