This research aims to analyze the role of the U.S. program of Alliance for Progress in Chile and Venezuela, between 1961 1963. Starting with a review of the Chilean and Venezuelan foreign policy toward the United States during the administrations of Jorge Alessandri and Romulo Betancourt, respectively. The idea of President John F. Kennedys plan to promote economic aid to Latin America to counter the influence of communism, which left the Cuban revolution occurred in the region played an important start, but their development goals were not met. In sum, the understanding of this process, des initial objectives, scope and context is critical to assess the Alliance for Progress as the first-and so far only-initiative approach of U.S. foreign policy towards Latin America.
