Resumen

We will analyze in this work the concrete manifestations of the “tribe”, present in the description of the Venezuelan society that Mario Briceño-Iragorry points out, besides the behaviors and institutions that can help us, according to this author, to overcome that social condition expressed in two of his books of the fifties: Message without destiny and The eleventh hour. To do this we will use examples exposed by the Viennese philosopher Karl Popper on the tribe, to the precisions of the same concept that expresses Mariano Picón Salas for Latin America and the characteristics of our Venezuelan conglomerate that exposes Ana Teresa Torres in his book The inheritance of the tribe edited in 2009. We will divide our work into three parts: 1) Identity narrative, indispensable ingredient for the existence of the tribe; 2) The tribe, the people and the political parties in Mario Briceño-Iragorry, finally; 3) Intelligence, wisdom, morality and university, the latter necessary to overcome tribal structures.
