Written documents have been par excellence the sources used by History in its effort to expose and analyze the past of men in society. However, the use of visual resources to achieve the same purpose seems rare. For that reason we want, in this case, to expose the importance of the cartoon as a source of knowledge and historical debate. The review of some texts related to Cultural History, those that study the Venezuelan cartoon and, very in particular, the critical judgement of creole historians in that regard, make us weigh that the way of the original proposition has a fruitful foundation.
