Abstract

NARVAEZ, Mercy; FERRER, Juliana; FERNANDEZ, Gladys  and  SENIOR, Alexa. Traits of the ethical component in fulfilling social business management for small and medium-sized enterprises in the Paraguaná region. Revista de Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2009, vol.15, n.1, pp.112-125. ISSN 1315-9518.

To be an advanced enterprise, it is not only necessary to possess distinctive capacities and make the best use of available resources, it is indispensable to build the enterprise on a base of greater social solidarity and cooperation. This article is presented under this premise and its purpose is to analyze traits of the ethical component in business management of the SAMES sector that provides services to the national oil industry. A descriptive study was designed, with a non-experimental, transectional modality, establishing a population census that consisted of twelve (12) enterprises located on the Paraguaná Peninsula. Results of the investigation show a high presence in the enterprises of the traits: quality, confidence and credibility, which are considered necessary to function on the basis of being socially admissible organizations. However, the low valuation given to the traits innovation and social responsibility stand out. Conclusions were that it is necessary to strengthen the relations of the enterprises being studied in their internal - external dimension; to legitimate their image through connection with their employees and their social-environmental surroundings; and to diffuse their economic and social achievements. In this way, the actions they undertake will distinguish them from their competitors, generating a pattern of services rendered that will make them more attractive to the clients.

Keywords : Business ethics; social business management; small and medium enterprises; oil sector.
