This essay aims to give an account of the changes that are taking place in the professional practice of social scientist after the emergence of «postpositivist» epistemological paradigm. To that end, it sets methodologically three professionals-ethical ideal profiles (specialist, missionary and dialogic) in order to make comparisons between them and appreciate the uniqueness of the changes noted and their practical implications. It concludes by linking dialogic profile with a reformulated critical theory.
