CAIRA TOVAR, Norma M e LESCHER SOTO, Isaías S. The impact of curricular reform on academic performance: Case: Sociology . Revista de Ciencias Sociales [online]. 2010, vol.16, n.2, pp.280-291. ISSN 1315-9518.
The aim of this work is to determine the preliminary impact on student academic performance of the curricular reform applied in the School of Sociology at the University of the Zulia starting with the first academic period of 2008. The study relies on the postulates of De Miguel (2001) and Méndez (2000, 2004), related to the parameters for curricular evaluations referring to academic performance and conceptualization about curricular reform. Research was of the evaluative, descriptive and documentary type. The totality of six-hundred two (602) students in the school were considered as the population; their academic performance was evaluated before and after applying the reform, using documentary observation of records contributed by the program LUZ - SADIA. On reviewing student performance, the maintenance of an academic yield of fourteen (14) points was verified, considered so-so according to the proposed standard; this makes it possible to assert that, at this moment, the implemented curricular reform has not notably affected academic yield. It was recommended to repeat the study annually and complement it with the opinions of students, graduates and the labor market.
