The political and historiographic ideas of Laureano Villanueva are investigated. His entire written bibliographical production (books and leaflets) and part of his newspaper articles were consulted. The investigation demonstrated that Villanueva is a political liberal, a nationalistic, romantic writer, attached to traditional political history. However, his biographies of Jose Antonio Paez, Jose Maria Vargas, Antonio Jose de Sucre and Ezekiel Zamora offer significant knowledge about the history of Venezuela.
