Abstract

HUERTA, Patricia; CONTRERAS, Sergio; ALMODOVAR, Paloma  and  NAVAS, José. The Influence of Enterprise Size on Results: A Comparative Study between Chilean and Spanish Firms . Revista Venezolana de Gerencia [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.50, pp.207-230. ISSN 1315-9984.

In order to contribute to an understanding of the importance that enterprise size has on the results that organizations achieve, the present study pursues two objectives. First, to perform a bibliographical review regarding the size of businesses and its relationship to business results; and second, to contrast the previous positions in order to contribute empirical evidence regarding them, through a comparative analysis of Chilean and Spanish firms. The contrast was made between complete panels of Chilean and Spanish industrial firms for the period 1999-2005, using a random effects model. Employing panel data techniques, it was discovered that a relationship exists between business size and results, and, furthermore, that size is a variable that significantly influences business results. In conclusion, enterprises that want to achieve better results ought to consider business dimension or size as a relevant variable.
