Abstract

This research is a descriptive study with the intention to determine the type of impact produced in the communicative competence in English when drama was implemented by the participants of the English Theatre Club of the Modern Languages Department at the Instituto Pedagógico de Barquisimeto. In order to contrast mean variations between the expected impact and the perceive impact of this activity students answered a 40 items questionnaire. In addition, the coordinators were consulted regarding the communicative competence of the club members in the target language. After applying the Paired or Correlated Student t Test, no significant difference was found between the expected and perceived mean. In terms of coordinator opinions, they pointed to students’ good development of their communicative competence in English as well as a personal and professional improvement.
