Our purpose was the proposition of a heuristic model that will allow developing logical structures for the students to make a research project that could have a qualitative-quantitative focus. The qualitative focus is described from a methodological point of view, as an ethnographic study. The quantitative perspective was established in the evaluation of the projects in different dimensions. In this case, the results of the academic years between 1998 and 2002 were compare, as well as the students’ desertion. We used an anecdotic notebook to register the findings of the ethnographic study. For the second phase transcripts from the recordings from the students verbal expositions were used, they were classified and analyzed. Finally, the institutional instrument proposed by the Department of Professional Practices to evaluate projects was applied, as well as the comparison of the degrees of different courses that worked as a general indicator to establish the analysis parameters. The subjects of the research were the students of the Educative Research subject enrolled with the lecturer that carried on this experience at the Instituto Pedagógico Siso Martínez. The results of this research shows a considerable decrease in the desertion rate and in the number of failed students and the increase of the average in the degrees of the students while this research was in progress.
