ABSTRACT This paper has as a main objective to present the theoretic-methodological background of the retrospective evaluation and some results of the productivity followed from its application in the Masters degree in communication science at Zulia University. It is based on the theoretical orientation of authors such as Cabrero and Martinez, among others; as well as in documents from the Cinda and UNESCO. Methodologically, is based on a documental design and on cross transversal and ex post facto analysis of information and data, gathered between1994-2002, about qualitative and quantitative indicators of productivity of the program. The findings of this research could be applied to introduce qualitative changes in the teaching of the Social Communication Masters degree at Zulia University.
