Abstract

The purpose of the present research was to evaluate the link between the organizational cultural typology and the motivating properties within a teaching working environment. The location of the study was the Teachers Professional Development Institute (IMPM) located at the Los dos Caminos branch of the Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador. The sample was made of forty regular teachers performing managing duties. In order to verify the correlation between the two variables, the data analysis had a twofold orientation: first, determining the cultural typology according to Roger Harrison’s theory; second, establishing the teacher’s motivational profile according to Hackman and Oldham’s Working Place Motivating Properties Scale. A descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was used to estimate a significance level of 95% and a 5% margin of error for the distribution. The results indicate that teachers have a medium motivational profile, were the two predominant aspects are task identification factors and motivating components leaning toward working performance. Consequently, teachers tend to rely on individual talent and are goal oriented. The link between the organizational culture at the IMPM and the motivating properties is significant. In addition, analyzing the psychosocial variables facilitated their understanding and therefore, opened up the possibility to manage more effectively the human resources at the Institute.
