Abstract

VINCENTELLI, Herminia  and  CASTILLO, Leticia. User’s profiles: Libraries at the Universidad Pedagógica  Experimental Libertador in Maracay. Investigación y Postgrado [online]. 2006, vol.21, n.1, pp.231-243. ISSN 1316-0087.

The purpose of the present article is to describe the user’s profile of all libraries at the Universidad Pedagógica Experimental Libertador, specifically at the Rafael Escobar Lara branch in Maracay. Two aspects were considered: a) the visit motivation, and b) the requested service. The data was collected using a structure questionnaire applied to a random sample of 45 students-users in five libraries (pre-school, CIDIPMAR, Spanish language and literature, Physics, and Central). The data analysis showed that the most common motive (86%) is to work with academic duties and that the two most requested services were internet access (75.5%) and adequate space (69.7%). Based on these results, two actions were recommended: a) promoting libraries functions other than academic, like it’s role to shape a well rounded individual; and b) taking into account the user’s needs in order to optimized services provided by the libraries.

Keywords : user’s profile; university libraries.
