Abstract

The present paper is the result of the putting into practice of a writing strategy based on the essay as a type of text. To achieve this, a diagnose was made that allow knowing the understanding that students from the Rural Pedagogical Institute Gervasio Rubio have about writing, its processes and the knowledge about the essay. In addition, the difficulties of the composition present in the first text written by these students, before the intervention, were recorded. Afterwards, the strategy designed by the author was applied and the changes occurred in the composition of essays were recorded, as well as the use of some of the writing processes. For the case of knowing the understanding of writing and its notions and/or problems with the essay genre, an interview in deep was carried out and, during the development of the strategy, it was used a participating observation with field notes. The instrument Index of Communicative Efficiency was applied to the texts produced by the students. In the workshop, it was discussed the diverse aspects of the text as a product and the writing as a process, and lastly the students were asked to write another essay for contrast. In the end, all the information was analyzed through analysis categories sorted by themes. The application of the strategy allowed asserting that if the didactics of writing is considered in reality as a constructive and resourceful process, then the improvements in the final products are evident.
