This article studies the characteristics of oral protocols as meta-cognitive research techniques. It studies five research papers published in arbitrated reviews, both at national and international level, which use the Oral Protocols as a research technique. The study focused on the use of the Oral Protocol Technique from a qualitative point of view and the results were later compared to the contributions made by previous researches on Oral Protocols. The authors offer their interpretation to finally present a set of categories and instructions that should be used to carry out meta-cognitive research using Oral Protocols in the field of Education.
