RAMOS, Ana Beatriz; FAGUNDEZ Z, Thamara  e  CASTELLS LL, Marina. Fitness criteria and institutional change proposals in the universitary environment. Investigación y Postgrado [online]. 2009, vol.24, n.3, pp.115-140. ISSN 1316-0087.

The article represents a qualitative study elaborated through the context of the Universidad de Carabobo, Venezuela. The primary theoretical reference is the Mathematical Cognition Onto-Semiotic Approach (OSA), which considers that the global fitness of a process of study can be obtained through a set of criteria, called “Fitness Criteria”. The purpose is centered into the appraisal of the teachers’ perspectives about the possibility of a change of the topic “functions” within the teaching-learning process, oriented towards contextualized mathematics. The results show to the college community how can be approached -through the qualitative paradigm and the Onto-Semiotic Approach- a problem within the universitary environment. Besides, becomes evident the powerful strength of the fitness criteria as instruments of evaluation in the search for a consensus.

Palavras-chave : fitness criteria; teaching of mathematics; ontosemiotical approach; learning of the functions.
