The textbook is an essential didactic resource for teachers. The aim of this study is to analyze the reading and writing activities of the school textbook El Cardenalito 1st grade. Such textbook is writing and distributed, for free, by the Peoples Ministry for Education. As for the analysis, the Literature Program for 1st grade of the Currículo Básico Nacional (CBN, in Spanishbasic national curriculum) was used to compare the procedural contents with the Reading and writing activities of El Cardenalito. The results that arose from the analysis say that the proposed activities in the textbook are coherent with the reading and writing approach that supports El Cardenalito,nevertheless, these activities do not fully cover the proposed learning contents for 1st grade. For El Cardenalito to be a complete textbook and to deepen the acquisition of new contents, it should be necessary to open the proposal of the activities of it; reinforcing the reading comprehension and linking writing with daily life.
