COVA JAIME, Yaritza. The adjacency pair question-answer as listening resource for interaction within the classroom. Investigación y Postgrado [online]. 2014, vol.29, n.1, pp.7-43. ISSN 1316-0087.
The purpose of this investigation is to determine if the adjacency pair question-answer is a resource that allows teachers know if students understand what is taught in the classroom. The theoretical aspects that were considered in the investigation were the interaction within the classroom, system of turns, and the process of listening comprehension. Methodologically, this investigation is classified within the interpretative paradigm with a qualitative approach and on-field modality. The study population was composed by 14 students. Direct observation was used as investigation technique and field notes and check lists were used as instruments of investigation. The data gathered was always videotaped. The results of the investigation highlighted that students undertook almost all actions of the stages involved in the listening comprehension process, the questions asked by the teacher were accordingly formulated for the given responses, and the answers given by the students were expected- their answers help them to realize they understood what they learnt. The adjacency pair question-answer can be considered as a resource to determine listening comprehension.
