QUINTERO R, María Liliana y DIAZ MORALES, Katty Marisabel. El mercado mundial del cacao. Agroalim [online]. 2004, vol.9, n.18, pp.47-59. ISSN 1316-0354.
Changes felt by the world economy over the last few years have significantly affected commercial relations of countries producing raw materials. This implies a transformation of their economies. Under this scenario, the objective of this article is to characterize the world cocoa grain market. In order to do so, initially a description and evolution of the principle variables that affect world cocoa grain commerce is posed as well as changes in their performance. From this, it is known that cocoa grain supply and demand is highly concentrated in geographic regions. In the last twenty years, however, geographic distribution changes have been observed. Consequently, export origins have been displaced without significant changes to the destination. Finally, grain quality as an important factor in the evolution of world commerce for this product is emphasized due to changes in the type of grain supplied and price fixing.
