The objective of the present article is to propose, using data from national accounting, a model for the empirical analysis of changes that have occurred in the Venezuelan Agrofood Sector (VAS).  To achieve this objective, this work has been structured in five parts.  In the first part, the main changes that have been occurring in the agrofood system in developing countries are reviewed.  Then, the principal models proposed to evaluate the referred to changes are examined.  In the third part, the limitations of such models for approaching the analysis of changes that have occurred in the VAS are determined.  Below some magnitudes of the Venezuelan agrofood sector that are reflected in Venezuelan national accounting are analyzed.  And, lastly, we proceed to propose the methodological proposal for the empirical analysis of the mentioned transformations.
