The objective of this research was to analyze the sustainability of the production system of the goat-Aloe vera in the semiarid region of Cauderales located at Urdaneta municipality, Lara state, Venezuela. Using the methodology of Participatory Research and Agro-ecological approach, based on the Framework for the Assessment of Management Systems Incorporating Sustainability Indicators (MESMIS), a characterization of the system and the measurement of twenty-one (21) indicators identified by farmers, within the environmental, social and economic dimensions. The data allowed determining a sustainable index of 2.8, which allows the system to classify as moderately sustainable; influenced mostly by the economic dimension, while the environmental and social had more constraints to sustainability. The indicators with value of four (4) were distributed between the attributes of equity and self management. The indicators under a program for improvement of the system were: Aloe Vera by products, natural resource conservation, sustainable agro-biodiversity, food security and use of production records, as well as level of employment and innovation among the marketing, because they were rated as potentially unsustainable and unsustainable, respectively.
